Yoga has been gaining a lot of popularity over the years. However, many believe that yoga is limited only to women.
When you walk into a yoga studio, you will probably come across a group of women, in their floral workout outfit, with their colourful yoga mats, getting ready for their weekly class. If you are lucky, you might find a man or two amongst them.
It is not that men are not aware of how beneficial yoga is. On the contrary, many of them are aware of how wonderful yoga is for the mind, body and soul from seeing how happy and relaxed their friends or partners are after their class. However, a few men actually realize how advantageous practicing yoga can be for them as well.
Just like any other sport, yoga is for everyone and anyone. It helps with flexibility, body strength and healing past injuries. Yoga also increases focus, reduces stress and enhances sleep quality.
With men specifically, these latter have a lot of tension around their hip area. By doing yoga, it can help release that tension. Specific yoga poses such as the One-Legged Chair, the Crescent Lunge and the Squat Pose, help with unlocking the hips and building strength.
Another important element that not many people realize is that yoga can be just as intense as a regular workout. There are endless yoga poses for men to enjoy and they all target different areas of the body as well as muscle groups. For example, the Boat Pose can aid with strengthening the core and back muscles. Cat Pose Crunches and the Side Plank also target both upper and lower body as they strengthen the core and tone the abs and arms.
