Even though I’m very much a morning person, I’ve tried to wake up early to start my day with yoga but have failed each and every time. It took a yoga class at the very top of Place Ville Marie to finally get me out of bed!
When I arrived, I was told the session would be held on the terrace since the weather was good. I was very happy to hear this, because I love practising yoga outdoors. That said, my first tip comes directly from this experience: bring a sweater in case your class happens to be outdoors on the 43rd floor, and a thick mat that won’t fly off at the first wind gust.
I set myself up and enjoyed the view (and managed to forget how early I had to wake up and the rush to get there on time!) We started gently to ease us into our practice, and then moved into a light flow. It was just enough to energize us for the entire day without sapping our strength. Between postures, our instructor Vanessa took the time to explain each one. While this is an ideal class for beginners, she was able to offer me useful tips to incorporate into my practice, even with my many years of experience.
I didn’t notice the time passing and the class was over quickly. I must say that no matter how tough it was to hold them, the postures where we could see the view seemed to pass much too fast. A fantastic way to kick off your day!
For now, the classes only run one morning per week, but I was told this would change shortly. Stay tuned to the Au sommet Place Ville-Marie page for the latest news.
